Care & Cleaning
For longer-lasting, stain-free shoes, we recommend using the Water Proofing Spray. This spray helps prevent your shoes from getting damaged from water and other elements that can stain, like oil and mud. To apply, spray shoes lightly, let dry, and reapply. For best results, apply two coats every six months.
Please see below for how to care for specific leather types:
Suede
We recommend using the Suede Special Brush to remove dust and debris from your suede shoes. To use, lightly brush over the dirty areas, being careful not to over-rub the material.
To remove scuffs and marks, use the Suede Dry Eraser. Lightly rub marks with the eraser until the spots fade. Please rub gently, as too much vigorous scrubbing can remove material from the shoe’s surface.
To refresh any faded suede coloring, we recommend using the Nubuck & Suede Color Restorer to bring your shoes back to life. Follow the instructions on the packaging.
Nubuck
We recommend using the Nubuck Leather Stain Dry Eraser to remove scuffs and marks on your Nubuck.
To refresh faded Nubuck coloring, we recommend using the Nubuck & Suede Color Restorer to bring your shoes back to life.
Polished Leather
Make sure to clean the leather before polishing. To do this, gently wipe gently with a cloth and soapy, diluted water. Let dry. Then, apply polish accordingly.
Calf Leather
To clean, gently wipe the leather with a dry wool cloth. If you do wish to use further cleaning products, make sure they are solvent-free to avoid removing any leather finishes. Colored creams should also be avoided.
Metallic Leather
To clean, gently wipe the leather with a damp cloth and immediately dry, avoiding direct heat. Do not use any cleaning products. Metallic leather has a surface finish and thus, liquids containing alcohol, as well as abrasive surfaces, should be avoided so as not to damage the finish.
Nappa Leather
To clean, wipe the leather with a damp cotton cloth. For more stubborn marks, we suggest taking the shoe to a leather specialist, as Napa leather is very porous and leather cleaners, moisturizing products, and colored creams should be avoided.
Patent Leather
To clean, wipe with a damp cloth. Because this leather is finished with acrylic and polyurethane, it is more durable. It easily absorbs ink, so avoid contact with heavily printed materials as well as alcohol or any type of solvent. Keep the shoes in their dust bag when not being worn for longevity.
Vegetable Tanned Leather
To clean, we recommend using a white wool cloth. Avoid soap, cleaners, and conditioners with lanolin. Regular sun exposure and grease and sweat from your hands will have a darkening effect on the leather over time, as vegetable tanning using plant-based tannins that patina over time. We suggest keeping your shoes in a dust bag when not being worn.
White Soled Shoes
To clean, wipe the sole with soapy water and let dry. A Magic Eraser or Clorox wipes can also work, as well as fine sandpaper for more stubborn marks.

Trying On Your Paul Green Shoes
For over 30 years, we have put sustainability first, starting with our production department and ending with our packaging, using only what is needed and nothing more. Our boxes are green as a reminder of this commitment to the earth.
Once you’ve removed both shoes from the box, it’s important to make sure the fit is just right:
- Put on the socks you plan to wear with the shoes. Going barefoot? That’s great too!
- Slip the shoes on - you’ll notice the support and flexible soles.
- You should have about a quarter inch of space between the tips of your toes and the end of the toe box.
- You want the width to be a bit snug, as our leather uppers and heel counters will mold to your feet with wear. If you are trying on sneakers and the width feels too snug, loosen the laces from the ankle down to the toes, and then tighten again while standing up.
